"Twenty years
ago the Ethernet computer local area network (LAN) was invented
in a Xerox laboratory and later supported by the Intel and Digital
equipment Corporation, Then in the mid 1980's. The institute of
Electrical and Electronic (IEEE) standardized the LAN known as
IEEE 802.3" Thus was born 10Base-2 'Thin Ethernet'.
It is a fast
moving industry where standards just will not stand still. Category
5 (10/100Base-T) cabling has been the defacto standard for the
last few years but with Gigabit (1000Base-T) nearing full ratification
everyone must start to look at the network cabling they're specifying.
